The guidance for the planting design of this tucked away back garden in Hampstead was "organic, organic, organic".

Benefitting from several already existing mature trees (a Plum, an Acer, a zingy Fase Acacia and a magnificent Magnolia), it was lower level planting which needed addressing since the borders were neglected and a little empty.

They needed an injection of shrubs to introduce some robustness and shapes to screen a lacklustre fence and give a more rounded woodland feel to the setting.

We worked within the parameters of the shade cast by those trees and picked plants of woodland origin.  A small corner of the garden happens to catch a lot of the sun and so we went for an exuberant vibe here with plenty of colour and a red-leaved Clematis which we will allow to spread out along the South-facing trellis over time.

The boost of additional plants has really brought the garden together and it's a joy now to step into.
